Grade 7 Health Monday Dec 16- Strategies for Wellness and Holiday Card Making

Hi Grade 7 This Monday we will apply some great wellness strategies to get us ready for a relaxing and well Holiday over the Winter Break. Please bring anything that you would like to support this for your class. We will have holiday music, essential oils, zen doodles, make cards for homeless people in Calgary and if you want to bring a treat to share with your classmates while we apply wellness strategies (optional) please be nut and peanut aware. If you have materials you would like to bring to make cards, that would also be welcome. Email me if you have any questions. seaowen@cbe.ab.ca

Smoking Vaping & Peer Pressure

Hi everyone, We are building on scripts to create believable scenarios that integrate strategies to combat peer pressure and also to apply knowledge of real consequences of smoking tobacco, and vaping etc.

Smoking, Vaping, Peer Pressure

Learning Intentions: To think about the reasons why people choose to smoke (any substance) despite the negative harmful consequences. Understand the Facts vs. the Myths of Smoking. Begin to generate strategies to help yourself and others to avoid peer pressure situations. These strategies can be applied to all peer pressure situations.  How does an artist use their art to change the world? Smoking facts and impacts? Friday speakers corner? Dancers? Singers? Visual Artists? All Health Goal flow charts and visual representation is now due. Goal completion is for November 4th. Please provide evidence of follow through ie. Parent siganture (email or handwritten).

Goal Setting- Flow Chart & Visual

Hi Grade 7, We are using our flow chart to set a SMART goal in Health. We have the ability to create the life we want.  It helps to take action by setting a goal that is small, challenging, realistic and leads to something we wish for our lives. Our visual goal is a representation of a stage of the goal (Beginning, Middle, End) and can be metaphorical or abstract or be you as a scupture or statue that engages the senses and tells a story of the journey. Monday October 7 we will complete the visual goal and update this in the IRIS account. Welcome to Grade 7 Health & Life Skills

Welcome! Today we will discuss some common values and expectations around creating a safe and respectful classroom environment and: Seating Plan Duotangs (To remain in the room unless you sign it out). If you miss a class, please make up for it.  Assessment (wide body of evidence of product, conversations & observations). Discussion about "What is Health?" Define this together and look at the WHO definition of health.  Choices- how choices impact health and the cumulative nature of creating a healthy lifestyle. Human Sexuality will be our next unit

Hi Grade 7 Students and Parents! We will be starting our Human Sexuality unit next week (or when our "I am so RAD" presentations are finished. Please email me if there are any concerns regarding your child participation. If you would like your child to be in the classroom (but not participate) please let me know, or if you would like your child to not participate in the unit entirely, then please also let me know.  There will be an alternative assignment retaled to the human circulatory system that your child will work on independently. If you are fine with your child participating in the unit without modifications, then you do not need to indicate anything. Thank you, Ms. Owen

I am so rad due date

Hi Grade 7. Next week will be your last period of class time to complete your 'I am so rad' project. The due date is APRIL 1st.  When we come back from March Break, we will begin our presentations. I AM SO RAD BEACAUSE...

HI GRADE 7, WE ARE STARTING OUR NEXT UNIT - FOR STEM 3 IN SEMESTER 2 REPORT CARD. THIS IS A MULTI DAY PROJECT THAT REQUIRES YOU TO BE ORGANIZED IF YOU REUIRE MATERIALS (art supplies, paint brush, camera, etc.)  TO CREATE OR BUILD OR DESIGN OR AND YES YOU WILL ALL CREATE. I WILL HELP YOU TO STAY ON TRACK SO IT DOES NOT BECOME OVERWHELMING. IF YOU MISS CLASS, YOU WILL NEED TO CATCH UP ON YOUR OWN TIME. Expressing Emotions- Impotance

Hi Grade 7, We are going to wrap up our unit on Mental/Emotional Health with a small group project that demonstrates understanding of acknowledging emotions and what can happen if we do not express emotions.  This will be done through a very quick planning session with your group (I will create the group) and show a contrast. You can choose one emotion ie. Sadness, or you can show them all.  Each group will create their own and have 10minutes. Each group will perform.  Please discuss any anxieties around this and how each group member can contribute to this but it might just 'look' different for each student. Please communicate your needs in advance.  This is the work on applying 'Assertive Communication' so that your needs and the needs of the group can ALL BE MET. 7-5 DID A FABULOUS JOB ON THIS ALREADY!!   7-5- READ THE NEXT BLOG POST FOR OUR NEXT UNIT "I AM SO RAD BECAUSE...'

Duotangs to each class please

Hi Grade 7, Please be organized for class with your duo tangs and writing utensil. Also, please continue to take small steps in your goal setting - Something that you could do to improve at for Semester 2. The goal may change and that's ok. For example:  My semester 2 goal is to develop fuller answers with more detail in humanities. Action step I will take:  Ask for feedback from Ms. Brown/Mrs.Wesley on how to expand my answer in class time. Ms. Owen PS- Talk about what we are doing in Health Class with your parents on emotions and mental health. Keep talking and being supportive to one another.
